Chevy Chase Fourth of July 2012

Independence Day is right around the corner. Find out what’s happening in and around the Chevy Chase community!

Chevy Chase July 4 Celebration

The Town of Chevy Chase Independence Day Parade and Picnic starts Wednesday at noon at the Jane Lawton Center Grounds on Willow Lane (a few minutes from Friendship Heights). Although the RSVP date has already passed for the Parade and Picnic, you can always volunteer.  Click here to contact the Town if you’d like to help with the set up and take down.

Chevy Chase’s Mid-Day Fourth of July Activities

Before the parade, a decorating center will be set up for bikes, scooters and baby strollers. After the parade, nearby eateries Red, Hot and Blue, and Ben and Jerry’s will cater a picnic lunch – vegetarian options will be available if requested. The band Street Life will be playing until 2 p.m. Make sure to bring a towel to sit on and a bottle of water (although beverages will be available.)

Fireworks Near Chevy Chase

The closest fireworks display will take place at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington, less than ten minutes from Chevy Chase Village. Quiet Fire Soul will kick off the event with a performance. Parking will NOT be available at the school! Instead, a shuttle will take passengers to the fireworks from Westfield Wheaton Metro Parking Garage starting at 6:15 p.m.

Other Independence Day Events

If you haven’t done so already, stop by the Town Office to pick up a flag to decorate your front lawn. Manna Food Summer Smart Sacks Program will also be collecting food at the Town Office and at the Jane Lawton Center on July 4. Some of the items they need include: oatmeal, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, 100% juice boxes and shelf-stable boxed milk.

We hope you and your family have a safe Fourth of July. Be sure to let us know how you decided to celebrate. And check out our Chevy Chase fireworks video below!
