5 Tips for a Smooth Inspection of Your Chevy Chase Home

Bethesda home inspectionWhen you are selling your DC area home, the buyers may request a home inspection as part of the deal. This isn’t cause for concern, but the inspection process will be smoother if you prepare for it. Here are a few tips I’m passing along from RISMedia, with my own suggestions!

Home Inspection Tips for Chevy Chase and Bethesda Home Sellers

1. Consider getting a home inspection before you list your home for sale. You may be aware of a few minor issues already, but if you have lived in your home for a long time, some issues may be escaping you attention. Identify and resolve issues ahead of time.

2. Allow easy access to the home’s mechanical systems, attic, crawl space, ect. Remove clutter and give the inspector as much open space to work in as possible. Be sure the electrical panel is accessible and that circuit breaker switches are labeled.

3. Disclose known defects up front. Never try to conceal an issue; inspectors are trained to sniff out problems. Honesty is always the best policy. List any non-working appliances or issues that you know about.

4. Every light fixture should have working bulbs. Tighten hand rails along staircases if needed. Fix little details, like leaky faucets, missing cabinet hardware, or other basics that could suggest poor home maintenance.

5. Make sure the appliances are cleaned up. Don’t leave clothes in the washer and dryer; don’t have anything in the dishwasher.

6. Be out of the house during the buyer’s home inspection. Also make sure your pets are safely in a pet crate or spending the day at a boarding kennel. There is nothing worse than a lost pet, or learning that your dog has bitten the inspector.
