The results are in! U.S. News & World Report has completed their annual assessment of 21,035 public high schools in the United States.
Their analysis includes each school’s ratio of students to teachers, participation in Advanced Placement courses, and student test scores in Algebra and English. Top schools are awarded gold, silver or bronze medals.
Only 500 of the top high schools are awarded a gold rank. We are proud to say that several gold medals were awarded to DC area high schools!
DC High Schools Earn Medals for Excellence
There are 20 public high schools in the District of Columbia. Out of this group, 2 schools received gold medals, 2 received silver, and 5 received bronze. The top 4 DC schools include:
- School Without Walls High School – Gold – ranked #266 nationally
- Benjamin Banneker Academic High School – Gold – ranked #461 nationally
- Ellington School of the Arts – Silver – ranked #1772 nationally
- McKinley Technology High School – Silver – ranked #1897 nationally
DC Metro Area Schools Place Among Top 500
High schools in Chevy Chase, Bethesda and Montgomery County also placed strongly in U.S. News & World Report’s 2013 rankings. The top schools in the metro area include:
- Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School – Gold – ranked #128 nationally
- Walt Whitman High School – Gold – ranked #59 nationally
Other schools earning high ranks include Winston Churchill, Poolesville, Thomas S. Wootton, Richard Montgomery, Montgomery Blair and Wheaton. You can read school rankings in detail on the U.S. News & World Report Education website.
