“Technical difficulties” may have caused a long delay midway through the Chevy Chase Club’s annual Independence Day fireworks show on July 3. But they did not deter most of the crowd gathered inside and outside (above) the club.

The show began on schedule at roughly 9:30 p.m. But after about ten minutes, it ground to a halt. A call to the club office elicited the information that there were technical problems.

A few people on Connecticut Avenue departed. A small number, somewhat better dressed, came out of the club’s gate at Newlands Street. After about twenty minutes, the show resumed with its usual panache.
