Time and Place at The Waverly Street Gallery

The Waverly Street Gallery will be presenting the works of artist Robert Lemar and new gallery artists in the exhibition Time and Place from November 8 until December 3. A reception will take place Friday, November 11 from 6p.m. until 9 p.m.

Lemar’s paintings reveal the beauty and detail in still life objects that are often overlooked day to day. Lemar’s impressivearray of work includes realism, abstract and portraits. In many of his reality-based paintings, his use of color and light appear to adopt impressionistic qualities. He has also painted stunning landscape pieces, capturing the tranquility of a coastal scene, revealing the soft shades of the desert or depicting the hectic blur of rush hour traffic.

Lemar grew up in Chicago and started painting portraits at an early age. He was a student at the Maryland College of Art and Design in 1971, where he continued to create portraits in Ocean City. Lemar says that light, color and an object’s three dimensionality all have inspired his work over the years.

Each month, the gallery holds a new exhibition. The Bethesda Art Walk takes place on the second Friday of every month from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. This is a great chance for visitors to see the work of local and international artists in an up-close setting.

The Waverly Street Gallery has gained recognition for its displays of artwork, ranging from the traditional to contemporary. Originally called Arts Alive, the gallery has gained more members throughout the years. If you are interested in finding out about local art happenings, be sure to see the gallery’s bulletin board.

The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. and is located on 4600 East-West Highway. For more information about the Waverly Street Gallery or the Time and Place exhibition, call 301-951-9441.
