Two Dead After Late-March Crash

A fiery car crash has left two teenagers dead and two injured near Chevy Chase Circle on March 23.

An officer noticed the car, a Toyota Echo, early that Friday around 1 a.m. The officer identified the license plate as a stolen vehicle from Silver Spring.

What Caused The Crash?

The car sped up on Connecticut Avenue when police tried to pull it over. The pursuit did not last long. The car struck a tree after turning into Chevy Chase Circle and suddenly caught on fire. It is uncertain what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which led to the fatal crash.

Who Was In The Car?

The sixteen-year-old driver sustained life threatening injuries, while the eighteen-year-old front seat passenger, Reeco Richardson, is expected to survive his injuries. The teenagers in the backseat, Kyree Nelson and Emmanuel Nelson, were cousins. They could not be rescued after the car went up in flames.

Traffic Accidents Around Chevy Chase

This terrible accident comes as a shock to the community. The last notable crash in Chevy Chase happened in November, when a taxi caused a three car collision after running a red light. There were no fatalities or life threatening injuries involved in that accident.

Last year, Maryland experienced a 10 percent drop in traffic fatalities. This was mainly attributed to the passage of several safety laws, which banned texting and driving.

Vehicular Crime Near Chevy Chase

The Chevy Chase area has had very few car thefts in the past. The most recent vehicle thefts happened February 16 in Rockville and February 9 in Chevy Chase Village. One of the most common crimes in the area involves thefts from vehicles.
