Eating Local Around Chevy Chase

As temperatures start to rise, the season for local produce will soon begin. If you’re interested in farmer’s markets or local dishes at nearby restaurants, you might want to check out the following Chevy Chase and Bethesda eateries for local foods.

Local Eats in Chevy Chase

Blacks Bar and Kitchen, located on Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda, offers many local and organic options, like vegetables and greens in its soups and salads. Specials and menu items change on a daily basis.

Blacks is open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Saturday, noon to 3:00 p.m. They open for dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Passage to India offers regional Indian cuisine, tandoor dishes and breads, made with local ingredients. Located on Cordell Avenue in Bethesda, this is a great place if you’re looking for vegetarian or vegan dishes. Entrees can be a bit pricey and average $15 and up.

Passage to India is open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Organic and Sustainable Options

Redwood Restaurant and Bar located on Bethesda Lane in Bethesda, was recently featured during Chevy Chase’s Restaurant Week.  They offer many excellent organic, naturally-raised and sustainable menu options.  Redwood is known for its seasonal mid-Atlantic cuisine – its produce, meats, cheeses and seafood are provided by local growers and fishermen.

Chevy Chase Farmer’s Market

If you think you want to add local foods to your own recipes, stop by Norman’s Farm Market at the start of the growing season.

Set on the corner of Jones Mill Road and the East-West Highway, Norman’s Farm Market offers naturally-grown local products from many Montgomery County-area farms. There’s even a stand in Bethesda on Massachusetts Avenue.

Although Norman’s doesn’t open until late May, there are still ways to get involved with Chevy Chase local foods. Check out their website for recipes and a chance to get a share of pre-season foods.
