Election Day Tips and Tidbits

Hard to believe that Election Day 2012 starts tomorrow.  Here are a few things you should keep in mind before heading out to the polls this Tuesday.

How Long Are The Polls Open?

You can place your vote between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Where Can I Vote?

Where you vote all depends on what precinct your Chevy Chase home is located in. If you aren’t sure about your precinct you can find your polling location online through the Montgomery County Board of Elections.  

What Are Some of the Issues I Can Vote On?

In addition to the candidates, there are several ballot questions in tomorrow’s election. The following questions pertain to Montgomery County only.
•    Workers with Disabilities – This amendment would give individuals with disabilities a stronger chance of employment in the county government.
•    Effects Bargaining in the Police Union – Voting in favor of this issue would end effects bargaining.
These ballot questions pertain to state-wide issues.
•    Redistricting – Voting in favor (yes) of this issue would support the recently redrawn districts. Voting against (no) this issue means lawmakers would have to go back and redraw the districts before the next election.
•    The Maryland Dream Act – Voting in favor (yes) of this issue would support the right of qualified illegal immigrant students to pay in-state tuition.
•    The Civil Marriage Protection Act – Voting in favor (yes) would support same-sex marriage in Maryland in 2013.
•    Gambling – Voting in favor (yes) would support a sixth casino, more video terminals and table games.
•    Orphans’ Court Judges in Prince George and Baltimore County – These amendments (respective by county) would require orphans’ courts judges to practice law in Maryland and be in good standing of the Maryland Bar.
•    Removal of Elected Politicians – This amendment would suspend elected officials found guilty of a crime, and removed from office when the conviction is final.
