Art on call DC is a city-wide movement to refurbish the districts police and fire call boxes with artistic flair. These boxes which were installed in the 1860’s, became obsolete with the introduction of the 911 emergency call system, in the 1970’s. The boxes, like this one located in Dupont Circle, display each neighborhoods distinct character and attract visitors to explore them.
