Cecilia Carchedi, a sophomore at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, is concerned about the burgeoning problem of obesity, especially among American youth. And she’s decided to do something about it.
Cecilia, with the help of several B-CC classmates, has founded an organization called “Peas of Mind.” It’s intended to help people by giving them access to information about healthy eating and to recipes that are both tasty and nutritious. Check out its web site!
Cecilia founded the organization after receiving training in social entrepreneurship from Learn-Serve International, which has an active presence at B-CC. LSI serves students from public, private and charter schools throughout the Washington area. Its Fellows Program trains students in ways to fight social problems they care deeply about, ranging from environmental issues to illiteracy and almost everything in between. LSI also sponsors summer service trips to Zambia, Paraguay and Jamaica for students from B-CC and many other schools.
That’s Cecilia above, presenting her project at the LSI Venture Fair last week.
