Washington D.C. Memorial Day Weekend Events 2013

Rolling Thunder: Sunday, May 26, 2013. This rumbling tribute of thousands of motorcycles is an unforgettable sight. This annual demonstration brings attention to the unresolved plight of Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action.

Riders begin heading towards DC around noon. Spectators line the streets at dawn, and roads are closed by 9:00 a.m.  Use of public transportation recommended for spectators. Visit the official website for route details.

Free Concert: Sunday, May 26, 2013, 8 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m. Free concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, sponsored by PBS. The concert features the National Symphony Orchestra, with other notable guest artists and celebrities.

National Memorial Day Parade: Monday, May 27, 2013. Pre-parade ceremonies will be held at the viewing stand at 1 p.m. at the National Archives, at the corner of 7th St. and Constitution Avenue.

The parade begins at 2 p.m.  Units from all 50 states participate in this spectacular parade of Veterans, marching bands, floats and flags. The route begins at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Streets, NW and proceeds along Constitution Avenue, past the White House, and ends at 17th Street.

Women In Military Service For America Memorial: Monday, May 27, 2013, 4 p.m. Held at the gateway to Arlington National Cemetery, this ceremony includes formal military honors, a keynote address, and wreath-laying. There will also be the traditional scattering of rose petals in tribute to women who gave their lives in service to our country. The public is welcome to observe, and may join in the personal tribute segment of the program.
