DC Flag

The flag of the District of Columbia was officially adopted in 1938. The flag, designed by Charles R. Dunn, was inspired by George Washington’s coat of arms. In 2002, the DC City Council passed a proposal to add the letters “DC” to the center star and the words “Taxation without representation” in white to the two red bars. The measure was never passed by the then-mayor Anthony A. Williams.
