The Smithsonian Castle is headquarters to the Smithsonian Institution which was founded by James Smithson to be an establishment for the “increase and diffusion of knowledge”. Today, it encompasses 19 museums, the National Zoo and nine research facilities, making it the world’s largest museum and research complex.
