Each year, U.S. News & World Report applies a series of performance metrics to public high schools in the United States to find those that deliver the best education.  Factors include student-to-teacher ratio, college readiness/Advanced Placement courses, and proficiency in Algebra and English.

21,035 public high schools were reviewed and ranked in this year’s analysis, with qualifying schools awarded a gold, silver, or bronze medal ranking. Only the top 500 high schools in the country are eligible for gold medal placement.

Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School and Walt Whitman Awarded Gold by U.S News Ranking

Bethesda has the honor of having two high schools in the highest category of recognition! Walt Whitman ranked #59 on a list of best high schools in the country.

Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School ranked #128. Both are among the 500 best high schools in the country, earning gold medal recognition.

We have several other area schools earning top marks. Montgomery County Public Schools had 6 schools placing in the top 500, including Winston Churchill, Poolesville, Thomas S. Wootton, Richard Montgomery, Montgomery Blair and Wheaton.

DC Public High Schools Earn Recognition

In the District of Columbia, there are 2 gold medal schools, 2 silver, and 5 bronze medal schools. The top-ranked DC high school include: School Without Walls High School, Benjamin Banneker Academic High School, Ellington School of the Arts, and McKinley Technology High School.
