In some places, underground art is work that’s banned by the authorities and displayed illegally. In Chevy Chase and Bethesda, it’s work displayed in the “Art Tunnel,” a passage underneath Wisconsin Avenue that connects to the Bethesda Metro station. The Bethesda Urban Partnership curates exhibitions of work by local artists for the pleasure of people passing from the Metro station to the buildings on the east side of the avenue.
The work on the left above is called “Iconic Treescape,” and it’s by Chevy Chase artist Alex L. Porter.
