The Great Blue Heron

Great Blue Herons are plentiful along the Potomac River, like this one spotted near Theodore Roosevelt Island in Rosslyn, Va. What make this bird so unique is that it has remained unchanged since its origin, which dates back to prehistoric times. This is why it is so important to support conservation groups, like the Friends of the Potomac River Refugees (FOPRR).
