Spring And Culture Are In The Air
Regardless of what that pesky groundhog has to say, spring is rapidly approaching – and Bethesda is hosting an exciting variety of cultural events in the upcoming months. We’ve featured a few of our favorites, listed below. We hope to see you there!
Upcoming Local Events: February-May
Stroll through the charming streets of downtown Bethesda and immerse yourself in galleries of stunning local, national and international artwork. Each gallery on the Bethesda Art Walk features a variety of paintings, photography and mixed media. The art walk is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the Bethesda arts scene and featured artists.
Bonus: Catch a free ride on the Bethesda Circulator, which runs continuously throughout the duration of the Bethesda Art Walk and stops within a few block of each gallery.
Play In A Day | February 21
Prepare yourself – you’ll be incredibly impressed with the 10-minute masterpieces that these six professional D.C. area theatre companies can produce in only 24 hours. These companies are challenged to write, direct, rehearse and perform original plays in one day. Participants receive their assigned themes (all similar) and props on Friday evening. After working through the night and following day, the plays are presented at the tenth annual Play In A Day on Saturday, February 21st.
Tickets are $15. Participants include Adventure Theatre MTC, American Ensemble Theater, Flying V, Imagination Stage, Olney Theater, and Round House Theatre.
The Bethesda Film Fest features five short, original documentaries produced by local filmmakers. These 5 to 30 minute will be presented over two evenings of screening at the Imagination Stage. After the screenings, attendees will have the opportunity for discussion with the filmmakers. The event is a fascinating opportunity to join together and celebrate local filmmakers and artists.
Bethesda Literary Festival | April 17-19
Celebrate the diversity of modern literature at the 15th annual Bethesda Literary Festival, featuring an array of local and national authors, journalists and poets. Listen closely as literary personalities read their work, talk about their craft, and host interactive discussions with other writers and audience members. If you want to show off your prose, there’s an opportunity to participate in several writing and poetry contests.
All events are free and are held throughout downtown Bethesda.
Bethesda Fine Arts Festival | May 9 & 10
This two-day cultural extravaganza is a dream come true for local creatives and art lovers. The two-day art fair, held rain or shine, features more than 140 booths of fine art and fine craft, along with the entertainment from best local bands in the region. Festivities and booths are dispersed over three different streets in Woodmont Triangle – Norfolk, Auburn and Del Ray Avenues.
Admission is free, and parking is available in the public parking garage.
